Indoor Pollution, Do You Ignore TVOC?
Oct 08, 2018

Every time  we talk about indoor pollution, everyone will instinctively think of  dust, hair, formaldehyde, benzene and TVOC. Among them, TVOC is a  "odor", but does it only bring smell that makes us uncomfortable? Is it harm to the human body? First  of all, let us correctly interpret the meaning of TVOC: it refers to total volatile organic matter, that is, all organic gaseous substances in the room are called TVOC. TVOC is one of the three most serious factors affecting indoor air quality pollution. TVOC  refers to an organic substance with a saturated vapor pressure  exceeding 133.32pa at room temperature. Its boiling point is between 50 °  C and 250 ° C. It can be evaporated in the form of air at room  temperature, its toxicity, irritation, carcinogenicity and special odor. Sexuality affects the skin and mucous membranes and causes acute damage to the human body.

TVOC's  main source is outdoor, mainly from fuel combustion and transportation.  Indoors are mainly from combustion products such as coal and natural gas, smoke from smoking, heating and cooking, and glues, paints and  paints in construction and decorative materials, plates, wallpapers, etc., furniture, household appliances, furniture, detergents and the body's own emissions. In the interior decoration process, TVOC mainly comes from paints, coatings and adhesives. It  is reported that the indoor TVOC concentration is usually between  0.2mg/m3 and 2mg/m3, and even in the improper decoration construction,  it can even be dozens of times higher. Many indoor aromatic hydrocarbons and alkanes are mainly derived from automobile exhaust (76%-92%). The TVOC content in general paint is 0.4-1.0 mg/m3. Because  TVOC has strong volatility, in general, 90% of the paint can be  volatilized within 10 hours after the paint is applied, and the TVOC in  the solvent only releases 25% of the total amount in the paint drying  process. TVOC has a pungent odor and some compounds are genotoxic. It  is generally believed that TVOC can cause imbalance of immune level,  affect central nervous system function, and have symptoms such as  dizziness, headache, lethargy, weakness, chest tightness, etc. It may  also affect the digestive system, loss of appetite, nausea, etc. In  severe cases, it may damage the liver and Hematopoietic system, allergic reactions, etc.

Prevent  TVOC damage, mainly from the source to prevent non-environmental  building materials; Secondly, often ventilation, even heating and  baking, so that TVOC release is accelerated; Third, the use of air  purifiers to control indoor air pollution. Fourth,  indoors appropriate cultivation of some green plants such as spider  plants in combination with the use of coconut fiber to achieve the  effect of purifying indoor air.
