Air Purifier Selection Guide

As China's  air pollution problem becomes more and more serious, people are paying  more and more attention to the air quality of their environment. As early as 2011, the World Health Organization pointed out that indoor air is 5-10 times higher than outdoor air pollution. As a very effective product to improve indoor air quality, air purifiers have become the standard for many families.

But do you know how to choose the right air purifier?


01 purification technology

At  present, there are three mainstream purification technologies for air  purifiers on the market: activated carbon filter, negative ion  generator, and HEPA filter technology.

Activated carbon adsorption technology

The use of activated carbon inside the dense and porous characteristics of the adsorption of particulate matter in the air. Activated  carbon is divided into three types: coconut shell, nut shell and coal.  The adsorption capacity is the strongest in coconut shell activated  carbon.

Advantages: Strong adsorption  capacity, can effectively absorb substances in the indoor air (such as  dust, particles, free molecules, bacteria, etc.), the price is  relatively low.

Disadvantages: Activated  carbon is easy to be saturated and needs to be replaced regularly;  activated carbon can only be temporarily adsorbed and cannot be  effectively removed, and with the increase of temperature and wind  speed, the adsorbed pollutants may be freed to cause secondary  pollution, so the filter material should be replaced frequently. To avoid adsorption saturation.

Negative ion generator

The  negative ion purifier can reduce the active oxygen (oxygen free  radicals) generated by pollutants, nitrogen oxides, cigarettes, etc.  from the atmosphere, reduce the harm of excessive active oxygen to the  human body; neutralize the positively charged airborne dust without  charge and settle To purify the air.

Advantages: It has the effect of treating diseases while optimizing air.

Disadvantages:  Negative ions have a short life in air and need to be released  continuously; the effect of purifying other pollution is general and  needs to be selected differently.

HEPA filter technology

HEPA  is divided into 17 different levels according to the filtration effect.  Only HEPA filters of 12 or higher can effectively filter out 99.7% of  suspended particles with a diameter of 0.3μm or more.

Advantages:  The effect of filtering particulate matter is remarkable, the capturing  ability of the particles is strong, the adsorption capacity is large,  the adsorption efficiency is high, and the water absorption property is  provided.

Disadvantages: For the 0.3μm suspension  particle interception effect is limited, can not achieve ultra-fine  purification; domestic dust is more serious, HEPA service life is  relatively shortened, need to replace the filter, the investment is  larger.

02CADR value

The CADR value is the purification efficiency and is the most important indicator of the air purifier. The bigger the better. Under the premise of knowing CADR, it is most reasonable to purchase the area suitable for your own. In general, CADR*0.1 is a safer area to use. Now  many purifiers will also mark the applicable area. At this time, the  value of CADR*0.1 can be compared with the applicable area of the label.  If the difference is not large, the applicable area can be recognized.  If the difference is too large, then the brand purifier The credibility of the question is questioned.


Reliable  CADR testing organization ranking: Authoritative third-party testing  organization (AHAM)> Domestic related testing institutions (Shanghai  Environmental Protection Product Quality Supervision and Inspection  Station)> Manufacturers' own testing (only labeled CADR value, no  data source is indicated, and can not be found Detection data of other institutions)> No detection (only nominal air volume, no CADR value).

03CCM value

The  CCM value refers to the parameter of the cumulative purification  ability of the air purifier for target pollutants such as particulate  matter and gaseous pollutants under rated conditions and specified test  conditions.

The addition of the CCM value  is the biggest change in the new national standard. It represents the  continuous purification capability of the air purifier and can also be  understood as the service life of the filter. This means that the product can eliminate the amount of formaldehyde or particulate matter before the filter is “discarded”. Simply put, the larger the CCM value, the longer the life of the air purifier filter.

Consumers  can roughly estimate the purification life of the air purifier through  this indicator, that is, how many days after use, the air purifier  consumables should be replaced. For example, an air purifier treats PM2.5 with a CCM value of 5000 mg if the PM2.5 concentration in outdoor air is 0.4 mg/m3. The house area is about 28 square meters and it is turned on for 12 hours. 0.4x 28 x 12 = 134.4mg, which means that it is open for 12 hours and is handled so much. Then use the value of P4 to remove the value that is roughly processed every day, and then how long the filter can last. Then if you open 24 hours, you have to cut it in half. If  the annual average PM2.5 concentration in the outdoor air is higher or  lower, and the space used is larger or smaller, the above data needs to  be modified.


04 high purification energy efficiency

Purification  energy efficiency definition: The ratio of CADR clean air volume to  rated power is divided into particulate matter purification energy  efficiency and formaldehyde purification energy efficiency.


Interpretation of the new national standard: An air purifier must not only be effective, but also save energy and electricity. Purifying  the energy efficiency value is an important parameter to directly  evaluate the quality of an air purifier. Under the same CADR value, the  purifier with higher purifying energy efficiency value represents more  energy saving.

05 low noise

Noise can affect human life. The noise dB (Decibel, decibel) is a pure count unit, which is meant to represent the ratio of the two quantities, no unit.

New  national standard definition: When the air purifier reaches the maximum  CADR value, the corresponding sound volume is generated.

Interpretation  of the new national standard: CADR value is getting higher and higher,  the internal fan of the machine must increase the speed, so the noise  will increase accordingly. A truly effective air purifier not only has  high purification efficiency and capability, but also has lower noise. it is good.


The official implementation of the new national standard has made consumers have a better reference when purchasing.
